1.1. The Institute of Coding Badging Website (https://instituteofcoding.open.ac.uk/badges/) ('Site') aims to provide an environment to issue, view, download and validate Institute of Coding badges. The Site is operated by The Knowledge Media Institute at the Open University ('we' or 'us') whose principal contact address is Milton Keynes, MK7 6AA, United Kingdom
1.2. Your use of this Site is subject to these terms and conditions ('Terms'). Only those who accept these Terms are allowed to use to this Site.
1.3. To use this Site you must read and accept these Terms. if you chose to use our Site you accept that you are legally bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to be bound then please do not use this Site.
1.4. You can gain different levels of access to this Site. You can simply browse this Site and view its contents, but to experience its full potential you can become a registered user.
a. Learners
An educational provider of yours may enter your details as a badge recipient on our site in order to issue you with a badge. They will then request an account registration for you, at which point you will be sent an email. You will need to click the link in the email to verify your email address and complete your registration. If you do complete registration for our site you are agreeing to abide by these Terms and accept our Privacy Policy.
b. Educators
If you are an Educator who wishes to be a badge issuer, you can request an account on our Site.If we enter you into the system as a Badge Issuer, you will need to provde certain details about your oranisation which are used against issued badges. Once you have been added to the Site as a badge issuer, you will be sent an email to complete your registration on our Site. You will need to click the link in the email to verify your email address and complete your registration. You are not obliged to complete your registration. But you will be unable to issue Badges without registering. If you do complete registration for our site you are agreeing to abide by these Terms and accept our Privacy Policy.
1.5. We may update these Terms (including our Privacy Policy) from time to time. Changes will have immediate effect from the date of posting on this Site and you should therefore review these Terms regularly. Your continued use of this Site after changes have been made will be taken to indicate that you accept and that you are bound by the updated Terms.
1.6. The information and content provided on this Site has been provided in English, which is the home language of the Site.
2. Content and information
2.1 Learners
As a Learner (badge recipient), you will not be entering any information into this site except if you change your account password.
You will be issued Institute of Coding badges by your educational provider through this Site. These badges will be digital badges and will be in the form of an Open Badge. You can view and download badges that have been issued to you by your Educational providers on this Site from your portfolio page.
2.2 Educators
As an Educator (badge issuer), you are responsible for entering the name and email address of any learner (badge recipient) you wish to issue badges to. By putting learner details on this Site you are declaring that you have first obtained their consent to share their name and email address with us. You are responsible for the accuracy of this information. The email address you enter for a learner forms part of the validation process for any badges you issue to them. This is inline with the Open Badge Standard.
3. Your personal information
3.1 Learners
We store your name and email address given by your Educators for the purposes of issuing badges to you.
Separately, we store your name and email address if you register for an account on this Site.
We store this so that we can operate the Site and contact you when we need to about the Site.
We will never pass these details on for marketing purposes.
3.2 Educators
We store the name and email address you give as an educator (Badge Issuer), when you are registered for an account on this Site. We store this so that we can operate the Site and contact you when we need to about the Site.
We will never pass these details on for marketing purposes.
3.3 All Site users
We use analytics on the Site, which captures information about its usage, to help us monitor and improve it. None of the information captured by analytics is personally-identifiable information - i.e., nothing that can identify you as an individual is stored.

4. Acceptable use and behaviour
4.1. You may not use the Site for any unlawful purpose, or to infringe the rights of others on the site;
4.2. You may not use the Site to harass, distress, or inconvenience any user(s);
4.3. You must not do anything which may cause (whether on purpose or not) the introduction or spread of a virus;
5. Our and Third Party Proprietary Materials
5.1. This Site also contains proprietary materials which are owned by or licensed to us and which are not subject to any use by users without permission from The Open University. These materials include our logos and trading names (e.g. OU Logos, the The Institute of Coding Badging Website logo etc.) and may include certain photographic and video images, sound recordings and the design, layout and appearance of and graphics contained within this Site. These proprietary materials are protected by intellectual property rights. Unauthorised use of these materials may constitute intellectual property infringement.
6. Accuracy of Content and Information
6.1. We are further not able to guarantee the accuracy of information contained on or available via this Site. You confirm that you have not relied on any such information and any arrangements made between you and any other person, using or named on this Site is entirely at your sole risk and responsibility.
